How to style comfy sweaters! Part 1

I don’t know about you, but I certainly have many many days where I wake up in the morning and all I feel is cold. It makes me not want to get out of bed or do anything! Then the thought of putting on a tight or revealing (basically uncomfortable) top to look fashionable makes me feel sick. All i want to do is not wear a bra, be warm and comfortable but still look presentable. On these days my huge comfy and fuzzy sweaters come in handy! I’ve had an obsession with sweaters lately and now they won’t fit in my closet anymore, whoops! Anyways here are a few different ways to style comfy sweaters without looking like you completely gave up on life ( even though you may feel that way inside) ;).

This post is going to made up of several different ootd looks put together but I will also give tips on ideas how to make theses outfits not so boring. You’ll see that they are all very simple, warm, and most importantly comfortable! If you want to see pictures of all my comfy sweaters, keep a look out for my Sweater Collection post coming up very soon!

aeo-sweater

Sweater: AEO | Leggings: Hyba | Shoes: Ugg

This is one of the simplest outfits but I love it so much! I love pairing leggings with sweaters because they are tight and form fitting which is completely opposite from sweaters. The ugg boots especially tied the whole look together because they are stylish but not very visible at the same time and they do not drag the eye to them, instead the sweater is the statement piece with nothing distracting the eye from it.

cozy-sweater

Sweater: H&M | Jeans: Urban Behavior | Shoes: Timberland

Here I went for a monochrome look. I paired my biggest black and white sweater with ripped jeans to add some more interest to the outfit. I really feel like the rips at the knee and some edge to the otherwise simple outfit. I finished the look off with matching white and grey socks peaking above my Timberlands. I chose the Timberlands instead one of my black pairs of shoes because I wanted to break up the monochrome a little bit and I find that they also add to the edginess of the outfit.

sorels

Sweater: Shrinking Violet | Leggings: Hyba | Shoes: Sorels

This outfit is one that I wear when I truly cannot get out of bed. I like this sweater because it is plain and can be paired with anything but it isn’t just a plain canvas, instead it has these cut-out patterns which automatically give the sweater some interest. I paired it with leggings again and wore my Sorels because they match the color scheme of the outfit perfectly, I especially love how the white fur ties in with the white sweater! Also, I’m not sure if you can tell in the picture but the leggings are more of a heather grey so there are specks of white that once again match the sweater.

styling-a-sweater

Sweater: Shrinking Violet| Jeans: Costa Blanca | Socks: Roots | Scarf: Forever 21 | Shoes: Sorels

Once again, I am wearing the white sweater as above but this time I paired it with jeans. I also accessorized with a burgundy scarf and roots socks peaking from the sorels to add some color to the outfit. I also love wearing my Talula burgundy mits for an even cozier and cute look!

As you guys can see, I love making simple outfits with little touches that add some extra interest or a pop of color to them! Tag me in your pictures if you want me to see some of your cozy sweater outfits!

I didn’t plan on making this a two-part series but it would be too long for only one post so look out for part two with more looks coming up next week!

WIW: Skiing

Hey guys! I just got back from Quebec where I had a great skiing  vacation (post on that coming up)! I realize that the skiing season is over but I wanted to share what I wore while skiing! Also, sorry for the horrible quality, I was always rushed and had to take the pictures with my phone :/

Unfortunately I’m writing this post too late so I’m not going to go in detail about what you need to stay warm while skiing. But to sum it up, you need:

  • dry fit leggings
  • dry fit tops ( I prefer long sleeves)
  • a fleece sweater
  • ski socks

The four things above are the bare minimum you need, for skiing you need many other items (snow pants, mits, balaclavas) but I will cover that in the beginning of next winter!

Winter Hacks (to make life %100 easier)

Today I have a bit of a different post than usual, its going to be a winter hacks post! I know I’ve done hacks before but these are house and daily chores type of hacks instead of my usual makeup and beauty hacks! The winter makes all our lives a lot harder, the cold weather simply makes our bodies want to shut-down and not move. It’s a natural thing, we want to stay still and preserve our heat, thats why getting up from our couches is a lot harder in the winter time than in the summer! With that being said, I’ve gathered a few hacks that I found on the internet that will make your life much more simple, hope you enjoy!

Shoveling Snow: When I shovel, I always feel as if my shovel is only picking up half as much snow as the shovel can hold because there is always snow stuck to the shovel! To make all the snow fall off your shovel to make room for more snow to get picked up, spray on cooking spray! When I came across this tip, I couldn’t believe it! The cooking spray will make the snow slip off the shovel and therefore make you strain your back a lot less!

Keeping your hardwood dry: I hate when people come into my house with wet boots and get it all over my hardwood floor! Even if there is a house mat, they usually won’t soak up all the water and the water will end up running off the house mat onto the floor. There si a simple DIY to solve this problem! Find a crate or nice woiuld box and then place your house mat inside it and then add rocks. (refer to picture below). This will keep the water inside the “house mat” and looks super chic for any house too!

Car Problems: Whenever I go somewhere with a car in the wintertime, I’m always late! This is because I always forget to account for the ice on the car windshields! It is such a pain in the a#s to spend 20 minutes trying to scrape off frozen ice. Instead of spending time with your ice-scraper, first spray on a solution 2/3 parts vinegar and 1/3 parts water. The ice should melt right off!

Also you can cover your windshield wipers with socks (preferably long) so snow won’t stick to them.

Lock Trouble: I have news for you! There is finally a handy thing you can use the hand sanitizer in your bag that you never use but always have for something! Rub the hand sanitizer onto your keys before you put it into the lock, the alcohol in it will dry out some of the snow.

Let me know what you think bout these types of posts and if they will help you out!

OOTD-Winter 2016

Hey guys! I hope you are having a great day! For me, this has been the best winter by far. It’s been pretty warm which makes me extremely happy because I cannot stand the cold! Today I have an ootd that I love to wear during the Fall and on the warm Winter days. I love wearing cargo pants during the winter because they are loose fitting so you can layer underneath and be warm even if it just looks like a loose and breezy pair of pants. I paired them with a cropped grey sweater and my leather jacket. The outfit details are below!

Winter ways to burn fat !

The following is a list of easy things you can do with your family or friends. So that you don’t feel guilty after indulging some hot cocoa with marshmallows and other fattening desserts (apple pie is one of my favorites:)!

Shoveling Snow: The chore we all hate, one of the worst things about snow but it will give you a hell of a good workout! Feel free to skip your workout if you shovel for longer than 15 min. As it is a great cardio workout but even more so, it will work every single muscle in your upper body!

Snowball fights: Running around in the snow, ducking, jumping and throwing snowballs gives you crazy calorie burn. Approximately 350 calories per hour!

Snowman building: Believe it or not this actually a great exercise! All that bending, rolling snowballs, and lifting can help you burn an extra 300 calories per hour!

Sledding: When going down a hill on your sled, you use many muscle groups such as your core to keep your balance so that you don’t fall (right away at least). Now the part that makes sledding a bit less fun; going back up the hill! Yes, that is the part we all dread when sledding, we spend 10 sec getting down the hill but five minutes getting up the hill. Unfair. But at least we can look on the bright side, going up a hill while holding and sled in the cold = lots of calorie burning! Precisely, around 240 per 30 min!

Skating: Get your skates and get your cardio on! Don’t have skates? Many ice rinks rent out skates for cheap so that everyone can skate when they like! Skating is great cardio but is also great for building glute muscles because you are constantly in a bit of a squat. It even works your core because it has to keep you balanced, so if you are especially clumsy (like me) you will burn even more calories! Always think about the bright side of things!

I hope you enjoy these ideas and remember, always think about the bright side! Even if its dark outside 😉 Also, did anyone else notice that all these activities start with the letter S?

How to Get Rid of Dry Winter Skin, part 2!

Every time Winter rolls in, I know that I`m about to have a battle with my skin! It always gets really dry and flaky, which not only looks bad but it also makes putting face make-up on almost impossible and it also itches like crazy! Although this year I think I finally got it right! Here are a few tips on how to keep your face moisturized!

Here are a few reasons why your face may be so dry.

  • Your daily cleanser
  • Washing your hands too much
  • The dry winter air
  • The winter wind
  • Your acne creams

Since there are so many solutions to these problems, I`m going to make this a two part series, the solutions and explanations to the first two points is already post here!

The dry winter air + the wind

I put these two together because it all really comes to the same thing; the weather! If it is cold and windy outside that will certainly give you dry skin. That is because the cold air drys out your face because the air is dry too and there isn`t humidity in the air. The harsh wind is also bad for your face, leaving your face extremely dry in the winter! So dry that your normal moisturizer may not even be enough!

So my suggestion is that you use a light exfoliant first to get rid of the pieces that are flaky, then take a warm shower right after and put on your most moisturizing cream. The humidity that you created in the shower + the moisturizing cream should be enough for your face to recover from the exfoliating. Also, keep your moisturizing cream beside your bed so that you won`t forget to put it on before bed and in the morning. One more tip is to not only slather the cream on your face but to rub it in, pretend that you are massaging your face so that the cream will get thoroughly absorbed by your face.

Your acne creams

The way that acne creams work, is that they dry out your face by absorbing all the dirt and stuff that clogs your pores. It also dehydrates your skin to make the pimple smaller, this is why many people suggest putting toothpaste on your acne to shrink pimples, because it is extremely dehydrating! It does help your acne problems but will unfortunately completely dry up your face in the winter time, giving you skin so flaky that your foundation crusts up.

So to solve this problem, try to use a moisturizing face mask at least 2 times a week. Also include moisturizer in your morning and bedtime routine even if you have a load of other products. It would be ideal to stop using the acne creams for a while to let your face get it`s natural oils back but I know how bad acne can get and why some people may not want to stop, so instead of getting rid of acne creams, go to a pharmacist instead of a drugstore and specifically ask them if they have any acne creams that are better for your skin. As for the foundation problem, try using a beauty blender instead of your fingers and apply the foundation by patting it in your skin so that all the pores are covered with foundation. Do NOT rub your face or apply it side to side because that will make the application 100 times worse, it will cause your skin to get even more flaky.

I hope some of these tips help you get glowing skin in the winter time, let me know if they help 🙂

How to Get Rid of Dry Winter Skin!

Since there are so many solutions to these problems, I`m going to make this a two part series, so make sure to check the blog for the last three explanations and solutions of the list above!

Your Daily Cleanser

This is something that I have been doing wrong for so long, and changing it up made all the difference! Cleansers are known to dry up your face becuase that is how getting rid of all that dirt and oil usually works, so its great for people with really oily skin, but for anyone else it will make your skin flake! So, from now on when you are looking for cleansers, don`t look for cleansers that claim they will make you acne disappear, really nice smelling cleansers, or cleansers with the little exfoliating balls in them. You see, anything with fragrance drys out your skin because the chemicals behind the scent are usually drying. That`s why even though I LOVE my Body Shop lotions that smell like heaven, I try not to use them as often as my other more organic and non-smelling lotions because I know that they do not moisturize as well. Also, stray away from any exfoliants for a daily routine in the Winter time. It is good to exfoliate every once in a while to get rid of the top layer of dry skin, but doing it daily will be too rough on your skin and leave it even dryer than when you started!

With all that being said, what you should look for a cleanser to say on its label is things like moisturize, daily, and especially labels that specifically say that they do not dry out your skin. After using a cleanser, use an extra rich moisturizer right after. To make sure your body absorbs most of the moisturizer, put it on right when you get out of the shower because your pores will be open then.

Washing Your Hands Too Often

This may comes as a surprise to some, but washing your hands religiously is actually not so great for you! If you wash your hands too often, you will most definitely get extremely dry hands. So many people over wash their hands an dcombined with the winter climate it leaves your hands red and flaky. So try not to wash your hands more than 5 times a day, also make sure to always dry your hands fully! Your hands pick up more gedrms when they are wet and the wetness also dries them out. Another thing you could do is to keep a bottle of lotion beside your sink and always apply it after drying your hands.

Stay tuned for the next post in this series! I also started a new fitness routine and was wondering if you guys would like a daily journal about what workouts I did and other fitness related tips, so if that sounds like something that would interest you, then please let me know in the comments!
